Pakistan staged a remarkable comeback against Malaysia to secure the bronze medal at the Men’s Junior Asia Cup 2026, defeating their opponents

HULUNBUIR: Pakistan staged a remarkable comeback against Malaysia to secure the bronze medal at the Men’s Junior Asia Cup 2026, defeating their opponents 4-2 at the Moqi Training Base on Sunday.

The Green Shirts found themselves in a difficult position early in the contest after Malaysia scored twice within the opening 15 minutes. However, Pakistan showed resilience and gradually turned the match around, producing an impressive second-half performance to claim a place on the podium.

Malaysia opened the scoring in the 11th minute when Adam Ashraf Johari converted a field goal to give his side a 1-0 advantage. Pakistan were unable to settle before Malaysia struck again just two minutes later.

Shafiq Ammar Fahmi Suzaini successfully converted a penalty corner in the 13th minute, extending Malaysia’s lead to 2-0 and putting Pakistan under considerable pressure.

The Green Shirts, however, responded strongly after the break. Rana Abdul Sami emerged as the key player in Pakistan’s comeback, scoring twice to bring his side level.

Sami reduced the deficit in the 34th minute before finding the back of the net again in the 47th minute. His second goal restored parity at 2-2 and completely changed the momentum of the contest.

Pakistan continued to press forward after drawing level and were rewarded for their attacking approach five minutes later. Muhammad Shaheer converted a penalty corner in the 52nd minute to put Pakistan ahead for the first time in the match.

With Malaysia struggling to regain control, Pakistan continued to create pressure and eventually sealed the bronze medal with another goal in the closing stages.

Waleed Rana converted a penalty stroke in the 56th minute, making it 4-2 and completing a stunning turnaround for the Green Shirts.

The victory capped an impressive campaign for Pakistan, who had dominated the group stage of the tournament. The team won all four of its Group B matches and finished at the top of the standings with 12 points.

Pakistan began their campaign with an emphatic 15-0 victory over Kazakhstan, setting the tone for their strong run in the competition. They followed that performance with a 4-2 win against China before defeating Malaysia 5-2 in their third group match.

The Green Shirts maintained their perfect record in their final group fixture, registering a 3-0 victory over Bangladesh. The result ensured Pakistan finished the group stage unbeaten and advanced to the knockout rounds as Group B leaders.

Their hopes of reaching the final were, however, ended in the semi-final when Pakistan suffered a 4-1 defeat against Korea.

Despite missing out on a place in the summit clash, Pakistan bounced back in the bronze-medal match and produced one of their most memorable performances of the tournament.

The 4-2 victory over Malaysia not only secured the bronze medal for Pakistan but also highlighted the team’s fighting spirit, resilience and ability to recover from difficult situations.
