Pakistan has received its largest-ever shipment of BYD new energy vehicles (NEVs), marking another important milestone in the country’s growing electric vehicle (EV) market. More than 2,000 BYD vehicles arrived at Karachi Port aboard a Roll-on/Roll-off (RoRo) vessel, a specialized ship designed to transport vehicles efficiently and safely.
According to port authorities, the vessel docked at the privately operated IGTL terminal. This is the first time such a large shipment of electric vehicles has been imported into Pakistan in a single consignment using a RoRo vessel, highlighting improvements in automotive logistics and supply chain efficiency.
Mega Motor Company (MMC), the official partner of BYD in Pakistan, announced the arrival of the shipment and described it as one of the company’s biggest deliveries to the local market. The company said the increased imports reflect the rising demand for new energy vehicles as more Pakistani consumers show interest in environmentally friendly and technology-driven transportation options.
Industry experts believe the electric vehicle market in Pakistan is expanding steadily as buyers become more aware of the long-term benefits of EV ownership. Lower operating costs, reduced emissions, and advanced vehicle technology are encouraging consumers to consider electric mobility as an alternative to conventional fuel-powered vehicles.
Danish Khaliq, Vice President of Sales and Strategy at BYD Pakistan MMC, said the shipment demonstrates growing consumer confidence in new energy vehicles. He added that the company remains focused on improving vehicle availability, expanding after-sales services, and strengthening its nationwide charging network to support the increasing adoption of electric mobility.
BYD Pakistan Country Head Li Jian also described Pakistan as an important market in the company’s global expansion strategy. He said BYD is committed to introducing world-class new energy vehicles while strengthening its local presence and supporting Pakistan’s transition toward sustainable transportation.
The arrival of the RoRo vessel also reflects the growing capability of Pakistan’s port infrastructure to handle large-scale automotive imports. Such vessels are specifically designed to transport large numbers of vehicles safely and efficiently, helping reduce delivery times and improve supply chain reliability.
As demand for electric vehicles continues to rise, industry observers expect more manufacturers to expand their presence, contributing to the country’s shift toward sustainable and modern mobility.
