Pakistan has confirmed that it has requested a $10 billion financial facility from the United States, with Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb expressing hope that progress will be made on the request by September.
Speaking to the media in Islamabad, Aurangzeb said Pakistan had submitted the request under an Exchange Stabilisation Facility. He said the proposal is currently with the US Treasury Department and is being considered by the relevant authorities.
The finance minister said Pakistan was also discussing different options with the United States to extend the repayment period of bilateral loans. He said the government wants to extend the maturity period of the loans to 10 years to ease financial pressure.
Aurangzeb added that talks were also continuing with US banks, the CDF and other financial institutions. The discussions are part of Pakistan’s broader efforts to secure financial support and strengthen its external financing position.
