Pakistan, Türkiye reaffirm joint position on Palestine

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and Türkiye have agreed to maintain their closely aligned position on the Palestine issue as the two countries continued consultations on regional developments and bilateral relations.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Ishaq Dar spoke by telephone with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan on Wednesday night, with the two sides holding detailed discussions on bilateral ties and regional issues of mutual interest.

During the conversation, both foreign ministers reaffirmed their shared position on Palestine and stressed the importance of continued coordination on developments affecting the region.

The discussion also included recent European measures concerning Israeli settlements. Dar and Fidan expressed support for a joint statement issued by eight Arab and Islamic countries welcoming Britain’s decision to restrict imports from illegal Israeli settlements and limit services linked to those settlements.

The two ministers also endorsed a joint declaration by Britain and other European countries concerning the two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

The renewed coordination reflects Pakistan and Türkiye’s continued efforts to maintain a common diplomatic position on Palestine, particularly as international pressure and discussions over a political settlement remain ongoing.

Beyond the Palestine issue, Dar and Fidan reviewed wider regional developments and agreed on the importance of maintaining close consultation.

The two sides also discussed continued cooperation through the Regional Four (R4) framework, which brings Pakistan, Türkiye, Saudi Arabia and Egypt together for consultations on regional matters.

The framework has provided another platform for the four countries to coordinate their views on developments affecting the Middle East and wider region.

Officials said the latest telephone conversation underlined the importance both countries attach to sustained diplomatic engagement at a time of heightened regional tensions.

Dar and Fidan also agreed to meet on the sidelines of the upcoming United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) session in New York.

The planned meeting is expected to provide an opportunity for the two foreign ministers to continue discussions on Palestine, bilateral relations and other regional issues.

Pakistan and Türkiye have maintained close political and diplomatic ties for years, with both countries frequently coordinating their positions on major regional and international issues.

The latest contact between Dar and Fidan therefore signals that Islamabad and Ankara intend to keep their diplomatic channels active, particularly on the Palestine question.

As international efforts surrounding a two-state solution continue, the renewed Pakistan-Türkiye coordination could add another layer to broader diplomatic consultations involving Arab, Islamic and European countries.
