The All Pakistan Goods Transport Alliance has announced a 5 per cent reduction in goods transportation fares following the government’s decision to lower petrol and diesel prices.
The alliance welcomed the reduction in petroleum prices and said the decision to cut transportation charges had been taken in response to the recent decline in fuel costs.
In a statement, All Pakistan Goods Transport Alliance President Malik Shehzad Awan said the fares had been reduced after petroleum prices dropped over the past four to five days.
He welcomed the government’s decision and thanked Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and the federal petroleum minister for providing relief through lower fuel prices.
However, Awan urged the government to announce further reductions in petrol and diesel prices to provide additional relief to the transport sector.
The government has reduced petrol prices by Rs9.41 per litre, bringing the new price to Rs352.59 per litre.
Similarly, the price of high-speed diesel has been cut by Rs5.56 per litre, taking its new rate to Rs382.25 per litre.
The reduction in goods transportation fares is expected to provide some relief to businesses that rely on road transport for the movement of goods.
