PIA plane evacuated at Jeddah Airport over suspected engine fire

Passengers were evacuated from a Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) Airbus aircraft at Jeddah International Airport on Thursday after ground staff suspected an engine fire shortly after landing.

According to sources, the aircraft landed safely and reached the jet bridge when ground personnel raised the alarm over a possible fire in one of its engines. The pilot immediately ordered an emergency evacuation in line with standard operating procedures (SOPs).

Some passengers exited the aircraft through the jet bridge, while others used emergency exits and evacuation slides to leave the plane.

Following the alarm, Jeddah Airport’s fire and rescue teams rushed to the aircraft with firefighting vehicles. PIA officials also alerted the airport administration and security authorities about the incident.

A PIA spokesperson confirmed that all passengers remained safe during the evacuation and said no injuries had been reported.

However, sources said several passengers suffered minor injuries while leaving the aircraft. Airport medical staff treated the affected passengers at the airport clinic.

The authorities have yet to disclose the cause of the suspected engine fire or provide further details about the aircraft’s condition.
