Pilgrims skip immigration checks at Jeddah and Madinah airports

Karachi’s Jinnah International Airport has joined the Road to Makkah project, a key step towards making the journey to the holy cities easier for pilgrims.

With this initiative, pilgrims heading to Saudi Arabia for Hajj will have a smoother immigration process. They will no longer need to go through immigration checks when they land in Jeddah or Madinah. Instead, Saudi Aviation staff will handle the immigration process at Karachi Airport before they depart.

To make this possible, the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has set up two special immigration counters for Saudi immigration at Karachi Airport.

The first Hajj flight from Karachi under the Road to Makkah project is scheduled to leave on May 9, according to Gulzar Soomro, the Hajj director in Karachi. He also mentioned that the project will assist 16,281 pilgrims departing from Karachi and an additional 1,000 pilgrims from Sukkur under the government scheme.

Additionally, 2,200 pilgrims from Quetta will travel from Karachi as part of this project.

To further support the pilgrims, the Hajj director announced that the government will cover the cost of plastic wrapping for their luggage, ensuring their belongings stay safe during the journey. This is a clear sign of the government’s commitment to the well-being of the pilgrims.
