ISLAMABAD: PIMS Hospital has issued a list identifying the 14 newborn babies who died in the fire that broke out in the hospital’s nursery on Wednesday morning.
The fire reportedly broke out at around 6:45 a.m. in the nursery. Hospital officials said 16 newborns were present at the time of the incident. One baby was rescued alive, while 14 deaths were later confirmed.
According to hospital records, the deceased newborns were admitted under the following mothers and fathers:
Javeria — father: Samiullah
Alia — father: Rashid
Anisa — father: Abdullah
Asia Bibi — father: Bahadur (Twin 1)
Asia Bibi — father: Bahadur (Twin 2)
Shakeela — father: Muhammad Tanveer
Sidra — father: Imran
Sumbal — father: Usman
Kiran Fatima — father: Muhammad Saad-ur-Rehman
Amina — father: Khurram
Maria — father: Qayyum
Khizra — father: Mudassar
Hafsa — father: Ishtiaq
Aroosa Saeed — father: Idrees Khan
The rescued newborn was identified as the child of Asifa, whose husband is listed as Waqas.
PIMS officials said the final cause of the fire has not yet been established and that a detailed investigation is underway.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has ordered a high-level inquiry into the incident and directed that the officials responsible be held accountable. The inquiry committee will be headed by former Interior Secretary Shahid Khan.
