Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) lawmaker Sobia Shahid has been barred from attending the proceedings of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly for two weeks following a heated exchange and disorder during a session.
The incident took place during a provincial assembly session when PTI lawmaker Sajjad Barkwal was speaking about the health condition of former prime minister and PTI founder Imran Khan.
During the discussion, Sobia Shahid pointed out a lack of quorum in the assembly. Her intervention triggered a heated exchange of words between her and PTI MPA Fazal Elahi.
The verbal clash quickly created tension inside the house, with lawmakers exchanging harsh remarks. The situation led to noise and disorder during the proceedings, disrupting the normal business of the assembly.
The deputy speaker intervened and warned Sobia Shahid for repeatedly speaking during the proceedings. Despite the warnings, the PML-N lawmaker continued to speak, prompting the deputy speaker to take further action.
The deputy speaker then ordered Sobia Shahid to leave the assembly chamber. However, according to the ruling, she was not willing to leave the house despite being directed to do so.
The deputy speaker subsequently announced her suspension from the assembly.
He said Sobia Shahid had been suspended under Rules 227 and 229 of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly.
As a result of the ruling, the PML-N lawmaker will not be allowed to participate in assembly proceedings for two weeks.
