PML-N’s decision to reappoint Nawaz Sharif as party president signals new direction

The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has announced its decision to reinstate Nawaz Sharif as the party president, heralding a significant shift in its narrative and leadership direction.

In a press conference, Rana Sanaullah, the president of PML-N Punjab, emphasized that the party’s trajectory will now be guided by Nawaz Sharif’s leadership, aiming for reconciliation and revitalization.

Sanaullah affirmed that under Nawaz Sharif’s presidency, the PML-N will address its shortcomings and bolster its standing among the populace. He underscored the party’s confidence in Shehbaz Sharif and Maryam Nawaz, noting that Shehbaz’s stewardship in Punjab prompted the suggestion to reinstate Nawaz Sharif as president. He emphasized the consultative approach between Shehbaz and Nawaz, highlighting their concerted efforts to navigate economic challenges and prioritize public welfare initiatives.

The provincial president reaffirmed the PML-N’s commitment to national unity, expressing solidarity with the federal government and the Punjab administration. Responding to inquiries regarding Imran Khan’s potential bail and release, Sanaullah distanced the PML-N’s ethos from Khan’s policies, attributing national woes to his administration’s obstinacy.

Sanaullah clarified that the party remains cohesive under Nawaz Sharif’s leadership, dispelling rumors of internal divisions. He stressed Shehbaz Sharif’s alignment with Nawaz’s decisions, signifying a unified vision within the party ranks. The announcement comes in the wake of Nawaz Sharif’s disqualification from the prime ministership in 2017, following a Supreme Court ruling that deemed him ineligible for the party presidency.

Meanwhile, an organizational meeting in Lahore proposed Nawaz Sharif’s elevation to the helm of PML-N, with Khawaja Saad Rafiq slated to assume the role of Secretary General.
