In 2023, PML-N Senator Afnan Ullah Khan recently lodged an FIR against Sher Afzal Khan Marwat, who serves as the lawyer for former Prime Minister Imran Khan. This incident unfolded during a live media show, ‘Kal Tak with Javed Chaudhry’ on Express News. The altercation occurred following a heated argument between Afnan and Marwat, which was captured on camera and widely shared on social media. The video showed a verbal clash escalating into a physical altercation, with Marwat assaulting the PML-N senator, and Afnan responding by pushing him away. The show’s anchor can be heard instructing studio personnel to intervene and separate the two.
On Friday, an FIR was filed at the Aabpara police station, citing Sections 352 and 506ii of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC). This incident took place during a televised debate in which Senator Afnan Ullah and PTI lawyer Sher Afzal Marwat discussed the current political situation. The exchange escalated when Marwat physically assaulted the senator and issued life threats, a claim he acknowledged in a tweet. Senator Afnan is determined to pursue the case, underlining the need to address physical altercations during TV talk shows to prevent a concerning precedent.
Concurrently, Marwat expressed his intention to seek pre-arrest bail in response to the filed FIR. He also initiated a request to file an FIR against the senator at the Margalla police station, citing Sections 25D of the Telegraph Act and PPC 506. Marwat stated that if the report was not filed by Sunday, he would pursue legal action through the courts.

Marwat raised concerns about contradictions in Afnan’s statements, initially claiming to be hit and later fainting. He also accused Afnan of attempting to influence the case by using the official Senate letterhead and sending the Senate director to the police station, labeling this as an abuse of office. Marwat threatened to escalate the matter to the Election Commission of Pakistan and constitutional courts, potentially leading to Afnan’s disqualification under Article 62.
In response, the senator refuted the allegations, stating that he had submitted a regular application for an FIR without Senate letterhead. Marwat later announced on X that he had left Islamabad to evade arrest.\
