The report said William would not make a film about Diana for the anniversary next year. It said the Prince of Wales wanted to avoid further public discussion of his mother and a potential situation in which he and his younger brother, Prince Harry, could be pitted against each other.

William previously said he and Harry would not speak as openly or publicly about Diana again after taking part in the 2017 ITV documentary “Diana, Our Mother: Her Life and Legacy”.

“We won’t be doing this again – we won’t speak as openly or publicly about her again,” William said ahead of the documentary’s broadcast.

The documentary, made to mark the 20th anniversary of Diana’s death, featured William and Harry discussing their memories of their mother. William described the process as “healing” and said the film was intended as a tribute to Diana.

Harry is separately considering projects to mark the 30th anniversary of Diana’s death in August 2027, including a possible documentary, according to recent reports. A source told The Telegraph that Harry had discussed “a number of possible projects” but that “nothing has been finalised or confirmed”.

Netflix has been reported as a possible outlet for a future project because of its existing relationship with Harry and Meghan Markle, although no documentary has been confirmed.

Diana died in a car crash in Paris on Aug. 31, 1997.
