Prince William reportedly ‘furious’ as Harry adopts new tactics with Sussexes’ UK return

Prince William is reportedly facing a fresh challenge following Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s decision to return to the United Kingdom with their two children.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have now arrived back in Britain after spending six years living in California. Their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, are expected to begin school in the UK, while the family is understood to be settling at a private, non-royal residence outside London. The unexpected move has reignited speculation about the future of Harry’s relationship with his older brother, Prince William. Although King Charles has reportedly welcomed the opportunity to spend more time with his son and grandchildren, the situation with William remains considerably more complicated. (The Guardian⁠)

Former royal butler Grant Harrold, who worked closely with William and Harry, suggested that the Prince of Wales is unlikely to be pleased by the Sussexes’ return. Harry has discussed his strained relationship with William publicly on several occasions, including in his memoir Spare. The brothers have remained largely distant since Harry and Meghan stepped away from royal duties and moved to the United States.

Their return could therefore bring an old family conflict much closer to William’s doorstep.

Some royal commentators have described the development as potentially creating competing centres of influence within the royal family. Former BBC royal correspondent Peter Hunt said the Sussexes’ presence in Britain could raise the possibility of “two rival courts,” while also making it harder for William to avoid eventually addressing the rift with his brother.
