Princess Kate kept camera gift a secret from Prince William

Princess Kate once arranged to receive a camera during a royal tour without telling Prince William, leaving her husband unaware of the story behind the device.

The incident took place in 2012 when the couple visited the Solomon Islands. Royal photographer Arthur Edwards, who was covering their official engagements, later recalled how the Princess of Wales approached him with a personal request.

Speaking to Hello!, Edwards said he had initially been asked to photograph Kate at a reception. She later asked him if they could speak privately.

During their conversation, Edwards showed her his camera and explained how it worked. He then asked whether she would like to have one of her own.

Kate agreed, prompting the photographer to contact the camera company and arrange for one to be sent to her.

Edwards managed to keep the arrangement away from Prince William, who had no idea that the camera had been arranged through the royal photographer.

The secret came close to being revealed during the couple’s subsequent visit to Bhutan. While Edwards was taking photographs, William noticed that Kate was carrying a camera similar to his.

Recalling the moment, Edwards said William pointed out that Catherine had a camera just like his. However, the photographer chose not to tell him that he had arranged the gift for her.

The story offers a glimpse into a lesser-known moment from the couple’s early royal tours and Kate’s personal interest in photography.
