RAWALPINDI: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Rawalpindi Cantonment Senior Vice President Ijaz Satti died on Tuesday following what the party described as a police raid at his residence, with PTI leaders alleging that the operation preceded his death.

According to PTI leaders and party sources, police allegedly conducted an operation at Satti’s residence at around 3 p.m. on September 16. The party claimed that Satti suffered a cardiac arrest during the alleged raid and subsequently died.

However, the circumstances surrounding his death and the specific cause of death could not be independently verified at the time of filing this report. No medical report confirming that cardiac arrest occurred during the alleged police operation, or establishing it as the cause of death, had publicly surfaced.

The reported incident triggered a strong reaction from PTI leadership, with senior party figures condemning what they described as an unlawful police action against one of their workers.

PTI leader and Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly Omar Ayub Khan, along with other party leaders, expressed concern over the alleged raid and questioned its timing. The party linked the incident to the scheduled visit of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Khan Afridi to Rawalpindi.

PTI leaders accused the Punjab government and federal authorities of being responsible for the alleged action. They specifically held Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif responsible for what they described as an incident requiring immediate investigation.

PTI also alleged that members of Satti’s family were subjected to harassment during or after the incident. Party sources further claimed that there was a delay in handing over the deceased’s body to his family.

The federal government, Punjab government and police, however, rejected the allegations made by PTI. Government and police representatives denied that the incident had occurred in the manner described by the opposition party and dismissed the accusations as lacking a factual basis.

Officials also rejected the suggestion that government authorities were responsible for Satti’s death, maintaining that the allegations were being used to generate political sympathy.
