ISLAMABAD: Public-sector universities have overwhelmingly dominated Pakistan’s representation in the US News Best Global Universities Rankings 2026-27, accounting for more than four-fifths of the Pakistani institutions included in the global list.
According to the ranking data, a total of 33 Pakistani universities have secured places in the latest edition, with 27 belonging to the public sector and only six operating as private institutions.
Public universities therefore represent 81.8 percent of Pakistan’s total presence in the ranking, while private universities account for 18.2 percent.
The figures highlight the leading role of publicly funded institutions in Pakistan’s international academic and research footprint. With 27 universities making the list, the public sector has a substantially larger representation than private higher education institutions.
The presence of 33 Pakistani universities in the global ranking also reflects the country’s expanding research and academic output.
