Punjab to unveil Rs5.3 trillion budget tomorrow

The Punjab government is set to present its budget for the upcoming fiscal year in the Provincial Assembly tomorrow afternoon. Punjab Finance Minister Mujtaba Shuja-ur-Rehman will table the budget, which is expected to have a total outlay of around Rs5.3 trillion.

According to official sources, the government plans to allocate approximately Rs800 billion for development projects aimed at improving infrastructure, public services, education, healthcare, and other key sectors across the province.

Punjab expects to receive about Rs3.79 trillion under the National Finance Commission (NFC) Award, while provincial taxes and other revenue streams could generate nearly Rs1.33 trillion during the fiscal year.

The proposed budget also sets aside significant funds for government employees and pensioners. Authorities have recommended an allocation of Rs650 billion for salaries and around Rs505.8 billion for pension payments.

Sources say the provincial government intends to increase employees’ salaries in line with the raise announced by the federal government. In addition, the budget is expected to earmark Rs800 billion for the Punjab Finance Commission to support local governments and district-level development initiatives.

The budget reflects the province’s focus on maintaining fiscal stability while continuing investment in development programs and public welfare projects.
