The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has issued a show-cause notice to the Superintendent of Adiala Jail after prison authorities failed to submit the medical report of accused Ahmad Aziz in a case concerning his request for bail on medical grounds.
A division bench comprising Justice Khadim Hussain Soomro and Justice Muhammad Asif heard the petition. During the proceedings, the court noted that despite its earlier directions, jail officials had not provided the medical report required to assess the accused’s health condition.
Expressing concern over the non-compliance, the bench directed the jail superintendent to explain why disciplinary action should not be initiated against him for failing to follow the court’s orders.
Representing the accused, Advocate Zeeshan Babar informed the court that Ahmad Aziz is suffering from a serious ear infection and that the necessary treatment is not available within the prison facility. He argued that the accused requires proper medical care and requested the court to grant post-arrest bail on humanitarian and medical grounds.
The petition maintains that the prison lacks adequate facilities to treat the accused’s condition, making specialized medical attention necessary.
As the medical report was still unavailable, the court deferred further proceedings until next week and instructed the relevant authorities to ensure compliance before the next hearing.
The case will now be taken up again after the court receives the required medical record and the jail administration’s response to the show-cause notice.
