AMRITSAR: Punjabi social media influencer and makeup artist Mad Sindhu was shot dead by two unidentified motorcycle-borne assailants in Amritsar, Indian Punjab, police said.
According to police, the incident took place at around 6pm on Saturday. Mad Sindhu was found lying seriously injured on the roadside after sustaining gunshot wounds. He was rushed towards a hospital for medical treatment but succumbed to his injuries on the way.
Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police Sri Veenila said that two unidentified individuals opened fire on Mad Sindhu before fleeing the scene. Police teams reached the area after receiving information about the shooting and initiated an investigation into the incident.
Authorities are examining the circumstances surrounding the killing and are attempting to identify the attackers. Investigators are also looking into possible motives behind the targeted shooting.
Following the incident, a post appeared on a Facebook account operating under the name “Goldy Dhillon.” The account claimed responsibility for the killing and accused Mad Sindhu of allegedly “spoiling” Punjab.
Police said the social media post claiming responsibility has also been incorporated into the investigation. Authorities are working to determine whether the account was genuinely operated by those involved in the shooting or whether the post was made by another individual attempting to mislead investigators.
Mad Sindhu, whose real name was Madhusudan, had established a presence on social media through his work in makeup, fashion and entertainment. He also appeared in various podcasts where he discussed subjects including the film industry, makeup and gender-related issues.
He began his professional career in the fashion industry, working as a stylist and later as an assistant costume designer for film projects in Punjab and Mumbai.
Over time, he expanded his presence on digital platforms, particularly Instagram, where his reels and videos attracted a significant audience. His content covered makeup, fashion, luxury lifestyle and various social and cultural issues.
Mad Sindhu also became known for openly expressing his views on social and cultural subjects. His public appearances and participation in podcasts further increased his visibility among social media users.
The killing has raised questions about the safety of public figures and digital influencers who maintain a visible presence on social media and openly discuss controversial or sensitive issues.
Police have launched efforts to trace the two motorcycle-borne suspects and are examining available evidence, including possible CCTV footage from the area. Investigators are also expected to examine digital records and the social media activity surrounding the incident.
Officials have not yet publicly confirmed the motive for the killing, and the allegations contained in the Facebook post have not been independently verified.
The investigation remains underway, with police attempting to establish the identities of the attackers, determine the circumstances that led to the shooting and verify the authenticity of the social media claim.
Mad Sindhu’s death has drawn attention across social media, where followers and members of the entertainment and fashion communities have expressed shock over the killing.
