Raja Sikander Khan congratulates Tariq Farooq on AJK Speaker appointment

ISLAMABAD: Chairman of the Global Pak Kashmir Supreme Council Raja Sikander Khan has congratulated Chaudhry Tariq Farooq on assuming the office of Speaker of the Azad Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly and Acting President of the AJK government.

In a statement issued on Saturday, Raja Sikander Khan said that the position carries a major responsibility at an important time with the hopes and expectations of the people of Azad Kashmir attached to it.

He expressed confidence that Chaudhry Tariq Farooq would use his political experience, maturity and commitment to public service to perform his new responsibilities with dignity, wisdom and effectiveness.

Raja Sikander Khan prayed that Allah Almighty grants the new Speaker wisdom, courage and foresight so that he can contribute to strengthening democratic institutions, upholding the rule of law and serving the people of Azad Kashmir honestly and fairly.

Calls for dialogue instead of political differences

The Chairman of the Global Pak Kashmir Supreme Council said the current situation requires wisdom instead of political division, dialogue instead of confrontation and unity instead of differences.

He urged all political parties, elected representatives, civil society and community leaders to rise above political interests and give priority to the peace, dignity and prosperity of the people of Azad Kashmir.

Calls for meaningful talks with Public Action Committee

Raja Sikander Khan also stressed the need for meaningful, sincere and continuous dialogue with the Public Action Committee. He said the legitimate concerns of the people should be addressed through negotiations and democratic means.

He said maintaining law and order, protecting fundamental rights and ensuring good governance should be the top priorities of the new leadership. He expressed hope that the new government would perform its responsibilities based on the principles of justice, accountability, compassion and effective public service.

Responsibility is public trust

Concluding his message, Raja Sikander Khan said that the new responsibility for Chaudhry Tariq Farooq was not merely an honour but an important trust placed in him by the people and institutions of Azad Jammu and Kashmir.
