Rajkumar Hirani confirms new 3 idiots sequel with original cast

Rajkumar Hirani has finally offered an exciting update on the much-anticipated sequel to his blockbuster film 3 Idiots, confirming that work on a new installment is underway.

The acclaimed Bollywood filmmaker, 63, has built a remarkable career with some of the most memorable and commercially successful films in Indian cinema. His filmography includes Munna Bhai M.B.B.S., Lage Raho Munna Bhai, 3 Idiots, PK and Sanju, among several other notable projects.

For years, fans of 3 Idiots have hoped to see the beloved characters return to the big screen. Speculation about a possible sequel has surfaced repeatedly, but there had been no definitive confirmation from Hirani himself.

During a recent conversation with PTI, Hirani was asked directly about the possibility of another 3 Idiots movie. Rather than dismissing the reports, the director confirmed that the project is currently being developed.

Hirani responded with a smile before revealing that the script is still being written.

“Writing… still writing. So, once it reaches the right point then we’ll talk about it,” the filmmaker said.

Although Hirani did not provide a release date or reveal details about the storyline, his comments are likely to generate considerable excitement among fans of the original movie. His decision to wait until the story reaches the right stage also suggests that the filmmaker wants to ensure the sequel lives up to the legacy of the first film.

The director was also asked whether audiences could expect the original stars to return for the new installment. Hirani gave fans another reason to be excited when he confirmed that the casting would remain the same.

“Casting will be the same,” he said.

The original 3 Idiots featured Aamir Khan as Rancho, R Madhavan as Farhan Qureshi and Sharman Joshi as Raju Rastogi. Their performances became closely associated with the film, and the chemistry between the three characters played a major role in its success.

Released in 2009 and produced by Vidhu Vinod Chopra, 3 Idiots quickly became one of Bollywood’s biggest cinematic successes. The film combined comedy, friendship, romance and social commentary while exploring the intense pressure faced by students within the education system.
