Punjab Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat has defended his recent remarks about teachers, saying his comments were directed only at those involved in corruption and misconduct rather than the teaching community as a whole. He stated that he stands by his words and claimed to possess evidence supporting his allegations, adding that he could even identify the teachers concerned if required.
The minister said his statements had been taken out of context and selectively shared on social media to create a misleading impression. According to him, those who were the intended audience fully understood the context of his remarks, while attempts to distort his message reflected bad faith.
Rana Sikandar Hayat stressed that the majority of teachers are honest, dedicated, and deserving of respect. He estimated that nearly 80 percent of educators in the province perform their duties with integrity and described them as a source of pride for the education system. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting hardworking teachers, including providing international training opportunities to enhance their professional skills.
At the same time, the minister vowed strict action against individuals involved in examination fraud, cheating networks, chronic absenteeism, and other irregularities. He argued that protecting the dignity of the teaching profession should never be used as a shield for corruption or negligence.
He further alleged that some officials had manipulated board examination results over the years, damaging the future of talented students, and insisted that those responsible must be held accountable. Emphasizing that the government would not tolerate misconduct, Rana Sikandar Hayat said there is no place in the education system for anyone who betrays students, public trust, or national resources. He added that the respect of honest teachers and accountability of corrupt elements would continue side by side to safeguard the future of the country’s children.
