LAYYAH: The district administration has stepped up relief efforts for families affected by river erosion in low-lying areas of the district.
On the directions of Deputy Commissioner Asif Ali Dogar, Additional Deputy Commissioner General Shabbir Ahmed Dogar and Assistant Commissioner Layyah Rana Zohaib Karim visited Samra Nasheeb, Basti Kanjal and Basti Garmani to assess the situation.
The officials inspected areas affected by river erosion and reviewed the problems being faced by local residents. They also examined arrangements for shifting affected families to safer locations.
Mr Dogar said the administration was standing by the affected families and taking all possible measures to provide them relief.
He said 100 tents had been provided to the affected families, while vehicles and workers had been deployed to facilitate their transportation to safer places.
He added that cooked food and dry ration would be provided to the affected people from Tuesday.
The ADC said no family would be left unattended during the crisis and all possible facilities would be made available to them.
He said construction of a stud embankment would be initiated after the river water receded to provide permanent protection to the area and prevent future river erosion from threatening nearby settlements.
