MUMBAI: Bollywood superstar Salman Khan has ruled out the possibility of a biographical film being made about his life, saying he would never allow his personal story to be portrayed on the big screen and that his life story would remain with him until his death.
The actor made these remarks while appearing on the opening episode of filmmaker Karan Johar’s chat show, Koffee with Karan 9, where he discussed various aspects of his professional and personal life. Actress Karisma Kapoor also appeared on the programme and engaged Khan in a conversation about the possibility of a film based on his life.
During the discussion, Karisma asked Salman Khan which filmmaker he would choose to direct a movie inspired by his life if such a project were ever made. She presented four options: Kabir Khan, David Dhawan, Sooraj Barjatya and Sanjay Leela Bhansali, each known for a distinct filmmaking style.
Responding to the question, Salman explained that his choice would depend on the genre and the way his life story was presented. He suggested that David Dhawan would be the ideal choice for a comedy based on his life, given the filmmaker’s experience in delivering entertaining comedy films.
For a traditional tragic love story, Salman named Sanjay Leela Bhansali, whose films are known for their emotional depth, grand visuals and dramatic storytelling. Meanwhile, he considered Sooraj Barjatya a suitable director for a beautiful romantic story, reflecting the filmmaker’s reputation for portraying love, relationships and family values on screen.
The actor further indicated that Kabir Khan could be considered if the project involved an action-packed romantic narrative. However, despite discussing the different possibilities, Salman made it clear that he had no intention of allowing a biopic about his life to be produced.
He firmly stated that a film documenting his personal journey would never be made, adding that his life story would go to the grave with him. His remarks highlighted his desire to maintain a clear boundary between his public image as a Bollywood star and his private experiences.
During the show, Salman was also asked which actress he would like to work with in his final film. In response, the actor dismissed the suggestion that he was preparing to step away from the film industry, making it clear that he currently had no plans to retire from acting.
Explaining his reluctance to have his life portrayed in a biographical film, Salman reportedly expressed reservations about making his personal relationships and private affairs subjects of public discussion. He pointed out that relationships can be unpredictable, as it is difficult to know whether someone will remain a permanent part of one’s life in the future.
His comments reflect the challenges faced by celebrities in maintaining privacy while living under constant public scrutiny. Although actors frequently draw inspiration from their personal experiences for their performances, Salman appears determined to keep the details of his own life away from cinematic storytelling.
Meanwhile, Salman Khan continues to remain active in the film industry. His upcoming film Maatrubhumi is scheduled for release later this year. He is also set to appear alongside Nayanthara in filmmaker Vamshi Paidipally’s upcoming project, SVC 63.
With several projects in the pipeline, the actor’s latest remarks indicate that he intends to continue his cinematic journey while keeping his personal life private.
