The Sindh government is preparing to launch the second phase of its Pink Scooty Scheme. The program aims to provide free electric scooters to women and promote safe, independent travel. Senior Provincial Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon confirmed the upcoming rollout.

The first phase of the initiative, launched in September, received a strong response. Many women participated in driving training courses, obtained licenses, and started using the scooters for their daily commutes. The success of the initial phase encouraged the government to expand the program.

Under the new phase, more women will be invited to register for the scheme. They will also be encouraged to complete driving courses and obtain licenses. The government hopes this will make women’s mobility safer and more convenient. It will also help them travel independently for education, work, and other personal needs.

Sharjeel highlighted that the Pink Scooty Scheme is part of a broader strategy to improve public transport in Sindh. Other initiatives include the People’s Bus Service, Pink Bus Service, and Electric Bus Service. Together, these projects aim to provide affordable, safe, and dignified transportation options for residents, particularly women.

The minister said women’s empowerment is a core principle of the Pakistan People’s Party. He emphasized that the program aligns with the vision of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto. According to him, empowering women is not just a government project, but a social and political mission. It allows women to gain confidence, independence, and equal opportunity in society.
