Sindh launches women’s scooty training program in Hyderabad, Sukkur, and Larkana

Sharjeel Inam Memon unveils women empowerment and eco-friendly transport initiatives across Sindh

Senior Sindh Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon has announced that the Sindh government is launching a Scooty Training Program for women and female students in various cities across the province.

A meeting of the Transport Department was held in Karachi under the chairmanship of Minister Memon, where ongoing and upcoming projects of the Transport and Mass Transit Department were discussed in detail.

According to the spokesperson, the meeting decided to start the scooty training program for women and students in Hyderabad, Sukkur, and Larkana, and to further expand the People’s Bus Service network to three additional districts in Sindh.

The spokesperson also stated that the government has decided to open the Taj Haider Flyover, an important part of the Yellow Line BRT project, to the public.Referring to the women’s mobility initiative, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari said that the Pink Scooty program will make it easier for women to commute to offices.

Addressing the meeting, Sharjeel Inam Memon said that training sessions for women and female students to ride scooties will soon begin in Hyderabad, Larkana, and Sukkur. The training will be provided in collaboration with a private company.

He added that this is a significant step toward women’s empowerment and increasing employment opportunities. Women who successfully complete the training will be issued free driving licenses.

Sharjeel Memon further said that the key section of the Yellow Line BRT, the Taj Haider Flyover, has been completed and will soon be opened to the public. A new route from Gulshan-e-Maymar to Tower, consisting of 15 electric buses, will also be launched to provide citizens with modern and eco-friendly transport facilities.

He added that 20 new buses will be introduced in Khairpur, Shikarpur, and Naushahro Feroze, ensuring quality travel services in other cities of Sindh as well. A new fleet of double-decker and electric buses is also expected to arrive in Karachi soon.

The minister announced that an Electric Vehicle (EV) Taxi Service will be launched in December, and in its initial phase, 30 Pink EV taxis will be operated by trained female drivers.
