Indian teenage cricket sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi will use a separate changing room during India’s upcoming tour of England due to safeguarding regulations introduced by the International Cricket Council (ICC) and the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB).
The 15-year-old batter, who is expected to become one of India’s youngest international cricketers, has been provided with his own facility at every venue because players under the age of 16 are not permitted to use adult dressing rooms under the governing bodies’ child-protection policies.
Despite the arrangement, Sooryavanshi will still be allowed to participate fully in team activities. He can attend team meetings, strategy sessions and remain in the Indian dressing room during matches. The restriction applies only before and after games when players are changing clothes or using dressing-room facilities.
The ECB and ICC have implemented the measure to ensure the young cricketer’s safety, privacy and well-being as he adjusts to senior international cricket. Similar safeguarding rules are common in several sports across the United Kingdom for athletes under the age of 16.
To help him settle into the new environment, Sooryavanshi’s parents will accompany him throughout the tour. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) believes the additional family support is important given his age and the attention surrounding his rapid rise in the sport.
The young left-handed batter has enjoyed a remarkable rise over the past year, earning widespread recognition through impressive performances in domestic cricket, the IPL and India A matches. His England tour is expected to mark another significant milestone in his rapidly developing career.
