After staying silent for almost two years, Justin Baldoni has opened up about the legal settlement reached with Blake Lively, over their film ‘It Ends With Us’ dispute.
The actor and director, alongside his wife, shared a video on Instagram on Wednesday, July 8. HE started off by saying, “We have not spoken publicly for the better part of the last two years, and it’s not because we have not had anything to say.”
He further added, “Because lord knows we have, but it just felt like every time we went to make a video like this, we wanted to speak, something was telling us not to. It just didn’t feel like the right time, and we were talking about it and feeling into it and praying about it.”
Agreeing with him, Emily said, “This feels like the moment. There is so much to say.” Without naming Blake directly, Justin admitted he felt “immense gratitude,” though he confirmed he will not pay her legal fees.
Emily noted that their gratitude, “does not negate the injustice and the pain that we have also felt in the last few years.” She questioned how such a thing could happen “disguised as a fight for women,” adding there was a lot to process.
She went on to share that the past two years had been traumatic for Justin, making it hard for him to talk openly about what really happened.
Justin explained that his silence was meant to avoid feeding the “noise” around the case, choosing instead to let the justice system run its course. Emily backed him up adding, “The truth and the facts have spoken for themselves.”
Justin shared that he is still healing from the experience, noting that healing “isn’t linear”. Despite everything, the couple claimed that the experience has drawn them closer and deepened their faith. Emily ended the video noting that they now plan to focus on healing and spending time with their kids.
Justin’s statement comes a month after the court threw out Lively’s sexual harassment claims against him, narrowing her case over their 2024 film. Lively had accused Justin of harassment and running a smear campaign against her, prompting Justin and his company, Wayfarer Studios, to file a countersuit accusing Lively and her husband, Ryan Reynolds, of defamation and extortion. That countersuit was dismissed in April 2025. In June 2026, after her harassment claims were dismissed on jurisdictional grounds, the two sides reached a settlement. A judge ruled Lively could only pursue legal costs, not damages, prompting her to file for over $8 million in fees.
