Transporters demand release of 700 containers

President of the All Pakistan Goods Transport Alliance Malik Shehzad Awan has claimed that Islamabad and Punjab police have stopped around 700 containers and vehicles, urging the federal and Punjab governments to release them immediately.

Speaking from Karachi, Awan said a large number of the detained containers were carrying essential supplies, including medicines and food items. He warned that prolonged stoppage could lead to damage or spoilage of perishable goods, potentially creating difficulties for businesses and consumers.

He called on the federal and Punjab governments to ensure the immediate release of all trucks and containers and allow them to continue their journeys. Awan said authorities should take responsibility for any financial loss or damage caused to the goods if the containers remain halted for an extended period.

The transporters’ representative also urged the government to make alternative arrangements if it wants to restrict the movement of vehicles during political protests. He said the transport sector should not bear the consequences of measures taken to manage political demonstrations.

Awan maintained that goods transporters should be allowed to operate without unnecessary restrictions, particularly when vehicles are carrying medicines, food and other essential commodities. He stressed that any disruption to the supply chain could affect the availability and condition of essential goods.

He further appealed to the authorities to resolve the issue promptly and prevent further disruption to commercial transportation across the country.
