Trump made these remarks while speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One on his way to Wisconsin. He said the United States is seeing “great success” in its dealings with Tehran.
After arriving in Wisconsin, Trump again commented on the situation. He said developments with Iran “seem to be going quite well.” However, he did not give details when asked about recent discussions.
Later, while speaking at an event with farmers, Trump claimed that the United States had “largely finished” Iran’s nuclear programme. He said Iran no longer has the capacity to build a major nuclear system.
Trump said the US had taken strong steps to stop Iran’s nuclear progress. He added that the issue would be resolved either through a written agreement or through tougher measures if needed.
He also said the United States would “come out of Iran very quickly,” suggesting a possible change in future engagement depending on diplomatic progress.
Trump repeated his long-standing position that Iran must never be allowed to obtain nuclear weapons. He said this remains a key priority of US policy.
Iran responds amid rising regional tensions
On the other hand, Iranian officials have rejected pressure from international watchdogs. Iran’s deputy foreign minister accused the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) of turning technical oversight into political pressure.
He said recent monitoring issues at nuclear sites were caused by attacks, not lack of cooperation from Iran. Tehran has continued to defend its nuclear programme as peaceful.
Meanwhile, tensions in the Gulf region have also increased. Bahrain’s foreign ministry condemned reported missile attacks on its territory and Kuwait, calling them a violation of sovereignty.
Bahrain said its air defence systems successfully intercepted the incoming missiles. It also warned Iran to immediately stop such actions, saying they threaten regional stability.
Iran’s Revolutionary Guard, however, claimed responsibility for strikes on US-linked bases in Kuwait and Bahrain. It said the attacks were in response to American drone strikes on Iranian sites.
The IRGC warned that further escalation could lead to stronger retaliation, including threats to international shipping routes in the Strait of Hormuz.
The situation has raised concerns across the region. Gulf countries are on alert due to rising tensions between Iran and the United States.
Despite ongoing indirect negotiations, both sides remain far apart on key issues. These include Iran’s nuclear programme, sanctions relief, and regional security concerns.
