At least two children lost their lives and more than 20 people were injured in separate lightning strike incidents in different parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Wednesday.
The first incident took place in the Zakhak Hail Bazaar area of Landi Kotal. Lightning struck a house during the morning hours, causing casualties among members of the same family.
According to local police officials, two children died on the spot after the powerful strike hit the residence. Two other family members were also injured in the incident.
The lightning strike caused significant damage to parts of the house. Residents of the area rushed to the scene and started rescue efforts immediately.
The injured family members were shifted to a nearby hospital for medical treatment. Officials said one of the injured victims was in critical condition.
Authorities visited the affected area to assess the damage and collect information regarding the incident. Local residents expressed grief over the tragic loss of lives.
In another incident, lightning struck a women’s religious seminary in the Wahri area of Upper Dir District while classes were in progress.
The seminary had around 250 female students enrolled at the time of the incident. The sudden lightning strike created panic among students and staff members.
As a result, nearly 20 female students suffered injuries of varying nature.
Rescue teams and local administration officials quickly responded to the emergency and shifted all injured students to the Tehsil Headquarters Hospital in Wahri.
Doctors provided immediate medical assistance to the injured students. Hospital officials later confirmed that all of them were out of danger and their condition was stable.
Officials said changing weather conditions and thunderstorms have increased the risk of lightning-related incidents in several districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Authorities have advised citizens to remain indoors during severe weather and avoid open areas during thunderstorms to reduce the risk of such incidents.
