ISLAMABAD: Two food stall owners in Islamabad’s G-11 Markaz have reportedly been attacked in separate incidents, leaving several people injured and raising concerns over the handling of the cases by Islamabad Police. The incidents came to light after police registered cases and CCTV footage of one of the alleged attacks surfaced, while a senior legal expert questioned the sections invoked in the FIRs and called for action against the accused.
According to FIR No. 831/26, registered at Ramna Police Station on October 13, 2026, at 1:35 AM, complainant Shadab Ali, a resident of H-13, Islamabad, alleged that a group of men attacked his food stall, WRAPZY, in G-11 Markaz. The case was registered under Sections 506, 427, 148, 149 and 34 of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) by Sub-Inspector Khalid Mehmood.
In his complaint, Shadab Ali nominated Salman Hassan, Zain and Abdul Basit, along with nine to ten unidentified individuals. He alleged that the accused, armed with sticks, assaulted him, verbally abused him and damaged his stall. They also allegedly threatened to kill him and set his business on fire if he attempted to reopen it.
In a separate application submitted to the Station House Officer (SHO) of Ramna Police Station, Azmat Ali, son of Khadim Hussain and a resident of G-11/4, reported an alleged attack on his two sons, Shahzeb Ali and Sharib Ali, who operate a Rozin Burger stall in the same commercial area.
According to Azmat Ali, the incident occurred at around 2:00 AM on October 13. He alleged that Umar, who was carrying a pistol, Abu Bakar, allegedly armed with a dagger, Zain, carrying an iron rod, Nawaz and approximately 12 other individuals arrived in two vehicles and attacked his sons.
Azmat Ali claimed that Shahzeb was severely beaten, sustaining fractures to both hands, while Sharib suffered stab wounds to his head and other serious injuries caused by sticks. Sharib is reportedly receiving medical treatment at a hospital.
The complainant further alleged that the attackers took cash from the food stall and snatched Rs75,000 from his son, an amount he said had been kept for university fees. Describing himself as a daily-wage cart driver, Azmat Ali said his family’s livelihood depended on the food business. He also alleged that the attackers threatened the family against setting up the stall again.
Minute Mirror has obtained CCTV footage related to the incident. Footage from Camera 06, bearing the timestamp October 13, 2026, at 1:14:07 AM, shows a man wearing a checkered shirt near the stall around the time of the reported occurrence. The footage has become part of the investigation.
Speaking to Minute Mirror, Tania Bazai, a legal expert and Advocate of the Islamabad High Court, who holds an LLM and is an internationally accredited mediator and scholar, raised concerns over the police response.
She alleged that despite the reported recovery of a dagger, the FIRs were registered after several hours and that the relevant serious legal provisions had been replaced with comparatively minor sections, potentially benefiting influential suspects.
Bazai said the alleged handling of the cases was contrary to superior judiciary decisions and police rules. She urged the Inspector General of Islamabad Police to take immediate notice, hold the responsible officials accountable and ensure that appropriate legal provisions were applied according to the nature of the alleged offences.
She also expressed concern over the reported knife attack on a student, calling for a proper FIR and an impartial investigation into the incident.
