The two women, identified as 40-year-old Ann Mary Mathew and 35-year-old Anjana Hari were killed in separate incidents in Milpitas, California on August 28. Both women were reportedly close friends and had roots in Kerala.

According to reports, Anjana had moved to the United States in 2021 and worked as a schoolteacher in California. She was married to a software engineer and had a six-year-old daughter. Ann Mary Mathew also worked as a computer teacher at a school and was married with two daughters.

The investigation initially began after police received a report of a hit-and-run near Dixon Landing Road. A woman was found severely injured in the parking area of an apartment complex and later died while receiving medical treatment.

Witnesses reportedly told investigators that a blue SUV struck the woman before fleeing the scene. Police later located the vehicle in a nearby parking area and arrested its 32-year-old driver.

Investigators then dealt with a second case involving the fatal stabbing of Ann Mary Mathew inside her apartment. Police subsequently discovered that Mathew was a friend of the woman who had died after being struck by the vehicle.

As investigators began examining the possibility that the two cases were connected they questioned the 32-year-old driver further. According to reports the woman allegedly made revelations that led investigators to examine her possible involvement in both deaths.

The suspect has been identified as Anila who also reportedly came from Kerala and was a friend of both victims. She was living with her family in the same apartment complex.

Police have not yet publicly disclosed the exact nature of Anila’s alleged role in the two killings or revealed a possible motive. Authorities have classified the incidents as homicides and are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the deaths.

The case has attracted particular attention because the three women were reportedly friends and had even celebrated the Onam festival together with their families just days before the killings.

Investigators are examining multiple aspects of the case to determine what led to the deaths and whether the two incidents were deliberately connected.
