Sindh police rescue kidnapped girl, kill two criminals in Shikarpur operation

Islamabad: A high risk Sindh Police operation in Shikarpur led to the recovery of a kidnapped minor girl and another trafficked victim, while two members of a criminal gang, including its leader, were killed.

The Senate Standing Committee on Interior and Narcotics Control was briefed about the intelligence-based operation during its meeting chaired by Senator Faisal Saleem Rehman at Parliament House.

According to the official report presented to the committee, minor girl Huram Saeed Pathan, who had been kidnapped from Karachi on March 28, 2026, was recovered along with another trafficked victim, Jennifer Amir.

Police carried out the operation in the Kot Shahoo Katcha area of Shikarpur on May 22 and 23, 2026.

The operation was conducted under the leadership of the IGP Sindh, the concerned DIG, and the SSP Shikarpur.

During the operation, gang leader Abdul Waheed Arain, also known as Mullah, and criminal Ghulam Yaseen Banglani were killed.

The report stated that the victims were safely rescued and there were no police casualties during the operation.

The recovery of Huram Saeed Pathan came after she was reported kidnapped from Karachi on March 28. The operation later led police to the area where she and another trafficked victim were being held.

The committee also directed the police authorities in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to submit a complete report by September 7 on arrests in the murder case of the late Syed Amir Shehzad Shah in Mansehra.

The committee was also briefed about the crime situation in Islamabad. The Inspector General of Islamabad Police told the committee that crime in the capital had fallen by 28 percent compared with previous years.

He also informed lawmakers about plans to recruit 2,600 personnel for the Islamabad Capital Territory Police. The Islamabad Police is also set to receive 40 electric vehicles, and 60 solar powered charging points are planned.

The committee discussed security issues in Gilgit Baltistan and praised the police for their work under difficult conditions. The meeting was also told that no FIA office exists in the Chitral and Malakand regions. The committee directed the FIA to address the issue and submit a report.

The Ministry of Interior also briefed the committee on visa arrangements for Afghan visitors. NADRA informed the committee that visa applications are routed through the Ministry of Interior, which handles 118 visa categories, while the Ministry of Foreign Affairs handles four categories. These visas include those for foreign businesspeople and students.

Officials said delays can occur because of security clearance procedures. The Ministry also briefed the committee on tinted glass permits. Officials said QR-coded permits are currently issued for periods ranging from six to 12 months and are checked on site. There are currently 1,800 active tinted glass permits.

The committee was also informed that there is no policy for issuing business category arms licences to individuals in Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and former FATA areas. The Ministry said it would brief the committee on new directions for special cases.
