Former Spice Girls singer Victoria Beckham has played down the prospect of a musical comeback after recording backing vocals for a song by her son Cruz, saying the track was unlikely to be released.
Speaking on the US television programme Today with Jenna & Sheinelle, Beckham said she had agreed to help her 21-year-old son during a recording session because she found it difficult to refuse his requests.
“I mean, I just can’t say no to Cruz. I just can’t say no,” she said.
“He was in the studio, and he said, ‘Mum, can you put some backing vocals down?’ And I can’t say no, so I did as a little bit of fun,” she added.
Beckham said she did not expect the song to be released, describing the recording as a spontaneous moment between mother and son.
“I’m sure that song is not going to see the light of day. That was just me being a mom saying, ‘I can’t say no to my… my little boy.’ Well, he’s 21 years old,” she said.
She also ruled out new solo music and a Spice Girls reunion.
“There’s no new music. There is no more Spice Girls… I passed that baton over to Cruz,” she said.
Beckham said she was proud of her son’s progress as a musician, noting that he had toured in the United States and London.
“It’s his time now,” she said, adding that their studio session was “just a little bit of fun” and “nothing more”.
Cruz Beckham is pursuing a music career with his band, The Breakers. He shared a photograph of himself with his mother in a recording studio in September, prompting speculation about a possible musical collaboration.
