Arez Hassan, the son of legendary Pakistani pop singer Nazia Hassan, has chosen a life away from the media spotlight despite his mother’s enduring fame across South Asia. Now 29, he has pursued his education and established himself professionally in the legal field.
Nazia Hassan became one of the region’s most recognisable pop stars during the 1980s. She rose to prominence with the hit song Aap Jaisa Koi, which earned her widespread recognition in Pakistan and India. Other memorable tracks, including Dosti and Lekin Mera Dil, helped secure her place in the history of South Asian pop music.
The singer married businessman Mirza Ishtiaq Baig on March 30, 1995, in Karachi. Their son, Arez, was born on April 7, 1997. However, his childhood was marked by tragedy when Nazia died of lung cancer in London on August 13, 2000, at the age of 35.
Arez was only three years old when he lost his mother. Reports have also stated that Nazia and Baig divorced during her illness.
Following her death, Arez was raised in London by his grandparents and largely stayed away from public attention. Rather than pursuing a career in entertainment, he focused on his studies and professional development.
He attended King’s College London before continuing his studies in law. He is now reported to be working as a practising lawyer, building a career based on his own education and qualifications.
Despite his mother’s legendary status, Arez has maintained a private lifestyle and rarely appears in the public eye. His decision to stay away from celebrity culture has kept details about his personal life limited.
Nazia Hassan remains an influential figure in Pakistani music, with her songs continuing to attract listeners across generations. Her legacy lives on through her timeless music, while her son has followed a different path, choosing professional life and privacy over the entertainment industry.
