Take a close look at the picture above. Is the person looking straight at you or turning their face to one side?
At first glance it may seem that the person is looking directly at you.
However when you look more carefully you may feel that they are actually looking sideways. This unusual picture can easily confuse your brain.
The image was created using Photoshop by German photographer and artist Tim Verley, who shared it on social media some time ago.
He used his photo editing skills to combine two different pictures into one. In the first picture he was looking straight ahead while in the second he was looking to the side.
By carefully blending these two images in Photoshop he created an optical illusion that makes it difficult to decide which direction the person is facing. Interestingly both views are correct.
If you focus on the eyes, ears and overall shape of the head the face appears to be looking straight at you.
However if you pay attention to the nose, lips and chin, it looks as if the person is facing towards the right.
What is the secret behind this optical illusion?
The answer is simple: the image combines two different photographs.
This clever editing technique creates the impression that the person is looking in two directions at the same time.
That is why your eyes and brain may see two different things when looking at the same picture.
