Why Tehran-Lahore flight couldn’t take off revealed

An Iranian airline flight scheduled to arrive in Lahore on Wednesday has been delayed after failing to receive landing clearance, with aviation officials confirming that the issue is related to diplomatic approval rather than a technical or operational problem.

According to aviation sources, the aircraft was expected to depart from Tehran earlier in the day and land at Allama Iqbal International Airport. However, the flight remained grounded because Pakistani authorities had not yet issued the required authorization for its arrival.

Airport officials explained that the service is not part of the airline’s regular schedule. Instead, it has been classified as a special (extra) flight, meaning it cannot operate under routine aviation procedures. Such flights require formal clearance from Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs before being allowed to land.

Sources familiar with the matter said the Iranian government has already submitted the necessary request and official communication to Pakistani authorities. The application is currently under review, and once the Foreign Ministry grants approval, the aircraft will receive permission to depart Tehran and land in Lahore.

Officials stressed that the delay is administrative in nature and should not be interpreted as a safety concern or a disruption caused by technical issues with the aircraft.

The development comes at a time of heightened regional tensions, leading to increased scrutiny of international flight operations and additional coordination between governments for certain cross-border services. Aviation experts note that special diplomatic or charter flights often require extra documentation and government clearance, particularly during periods of geopolitical uncertainty.

Passengers awaiting the flight have been advised to remain in contact with the airline for updated departure and arrival information. Airport authorities also said they are ready to facilitate the aircraft’s arrival as soon as all required diplomatic permissions are issued.
