World’s widest road is Avenida 9 de Julio in Buenos Aires

Do you know which is the widest road in the world? Most people do not know the answer to this question but Guinness World Records has confirmed it. It is Avenida 9 de Julio located in Buenos Aires, the capital of Argentina. This is the widest road in the world known not only for its size but also for its history.

In the early 20th century, Buenos Aires was called the “Paris of South America.” To strengthen this image, the local government launched several construction projects. One of these projects was Avenida 9 de Julio which was inspired by the famous Champs-Élysées in Paris.

However, the people of Buenos Aires did not stop there—they wanted to make this road so wide and impressive that it would enhance the city’s global reputation. Construction of the road began in 1937 and was completed in multiple phases.

In fact, it took nearly 50 years to complete. Because of its size and central location in the city, the project faced many difficulties and challenges. Authorities had to relocate several buildings and complex traffic and infrastructure issues had to be managed.

The construction was finally completed in the 1980s. The road is 140 meters wide and has 16 lanes and Guinness World Records has recognized it as the widest road in the world.
