Fighting between Yemen’s government forces and Houthi fighters has reportedly intensified across several parts of the country, raising fresh concerns that Yemen could once again slide into a full-scale war.

According to a report by The New York Times, heavy clashes and airstrikes in the capital Sanaa and the country’s third-largest city, Taiz, have heightened fears of a renewed and broader conflict after years of instability.

Yemeni government forces said intense clashes broke out on several fronts around Taiz on Friday. Government sources claimed that Houthi fighters also seized control of three villages during the fighting, marking a significant escalation on the ground.

Meanwhile, a television channel affiliated with the Houthis reported that airstrikes targeted Sanaa, Taiz and at least three other provinces. The group blamed the Saudi-led coalition for the attacks.

A spokesperson for forces supporting the Yemeni government also confirmed that airstrikes targeted what he described as key positions in Sanaa. The renewed military activity has added to concerns that the fragile security situation could deteriorate further.

Arab media reports, citing claims from the Yemeni armed forces, said that 1,540 Houthi fighters were killed or wounded in 474 military operations over the past 24 hours. The reports also said the Saudi-led coalition intercepted three ballistic missiles launched toward southern Saudi Arabia.

The latest escalation comes amid continuing instability in Yemen, where years of conflict have caused widespread destruction and a severe humanitarian crisis. The World Health Organization has reportedly said that more than 800 people have been killed, while thousands more have suffered injuries or been displaced since renewed fighting began last month.

The developments could further complicate efforts to contain the conflict and raise concerns about a wider escalation involving regional actors. Any sustained increase in airstrikes, missile launches and ground clashes could place additional pressure on civilians already facing severe humanitarian conditions.
