According to officials and security sources, the bodies were found dumped in a deserted, mountainous stretch of Rarasham, an area falling between Barkhan and Kohlu belt. All victims had been shot dead at close range and their bodies were thrown in the wilderness.

Police, Levies and security forces along with rescue teams rushed to the site after local information and cordoned off the entire area.

*BODIES SHIFTED TO BHU RARASHAM:*

Sources confirmed that all ten bodies have been shifted to the Basic Health Unit (BHU) Rarasham and subsequently to District Headquarters Hospital for medico-legal formalities, postmortem examination and identification process.

Police and hospital sources have completed preliminary identification with the help of National Identity Cards (CNICs) recovered from some of the victims.

– *1 victim belongs to Duki*

– *1 victim belongs to Sibi*

> “Some of the deceased were carrying identity cards, indicating their permanent addresses as Kohlu. However final confirmation after biometric verification is underway,” a hospital official engaged in identification told Minute Mirror.

Officials said names of victims are being withheld until families are notified and legal formalities are completed.

*BACKGROUND — BARKHAN’S TROUBLED HISTORY:*

Barkhan, located in eastern Balochistan bordering Kohlu, Duki, Sibi and Punjab’s Dera Ghazi Khan, is part of Zhob Division. The district, comprising 12 Union Councils and one tehsil, has historically remained sensitive due to tribal disputes, security challenges and its proximity to Kohlu-Dera Bugti belt.

The district has witnessed similar incidents in the past:

– In February 2023, three bodies including a woman were recovered from a well in Haji Kot area of Barkhan, which had triggered a major sit-in by Marri tribe in Quetta demanding justice.

– Barkhan has also seen attacks on security convoys in recent years.

Security analysts say Rarasham and Sarati areas are remote, difficult terrain with limited road access, often used as dumping ground in such cases.

Following the recovery, Levies, Police and Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) have launched joint investigation. Sources said:

1. Crime scene has been sealed and forensic samples collected

2. Postmortem will determine time of death and calibre of weapons used

3. Families in Kohlu, Duki, Sibi and Barkhan are being contacted

4. Whether victims were kidnapped earlier from different areas and then brought to Rarasham is being probed
