Eleven teenagers were injured in a shooting at a birthday gathering in Macon, Georgia, early Monday, with two victims in critical condition, US media reported.
The gunfire erupted around midnight at Carolyn Crayton Park during what authorities described as a large gathering, CBS News reported, citing the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office.
The victims included four 18-year-old men, two 18-year-old women and five 17-year-old boys. An 18-year-old man and a 17-year-old boy remained in critical condition, while the other nine victims were listed as stable.
Bibb County Sheriff David Davis said the event appeared to have started as a birthday party at another location before the attendees moved to the park.
According to Davis, another group later arrived at the park, where an argument broke out between the two groups. The dispute then escalated into gunfire, injuring all 11 people from the birthday gathering.
Authorities had not made any arrests as of Monday, and investigators continued to examine the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
The FBI joined the investigation because of the number of people involved. However, Davis said evidence collected so far suggested the incident remained a local matter.
