A massive mountain section collapsed into a river in Nepal within seconds amid heavy rainfall and landslides, killing 24 people and leaving 14 others missing. Dramatic footage of the incident has gone viral on social media.

According to Indian media reports the Kali Gandaki River in Nepal’s Gandaki Province began swelling after days of heavy rain before turning into a severe flood on Sunday morning. Several areas, including Mustang, Myagdi, Parbat and Syangja, have reportedly suffered extensive damage.

The flooding triggered landslides that swept through a village in Parbat destroying homes and blocking major roads. The destruction has also created difficulties for rescue and relief teams trying to reach affected communities.

In Mustang district, a large portion of a mountain reportedly collapsed into the Kali Gandaki River in just six seconds following intense rainfall. The massive landslide temporarily blocked the river’s flow while terrifying footage captured the mountain plunging into the water.

In the video, local residents can be heard screaming as the mountainside rapidly gives way and crashes into the river. Officials reportedly said 24 people were killed and 14 remained missing following the disaster.

Another viral video showed a huge section of a mountain slope collapsing into a valley, carrying trees, rocks and wooden structures with it. A woman could also be seen crying as the devastation unfolded.

Separately, an avalanche reportedly struck a base camp in the Himalayas, killing two people and leaving 10 others missing.

The latest disaster comes weeks after devastating floods in Nepal on August 26. According to the report, more than 1,400 people were killed and over 6,000 were reported missing following the Bhotekoshi floods.
