Pakistani television host Abeel Jawed became emotional while recalling her husband Shehzad’s sudden death and the trauma her family experienced during his final hours.
Appearing on Good Morning Pakistan, Abeel spoke about the events that led to her husband’s death in May 2026. She said he had not appeared seriously ill before they went to the hospital, where doctors discussed the possibility of dialysis and ventilator support.
According to Abeel, Shehzad became frightened after hearing the doctors’ assessment. She said his heart failed within four hours of receiving the diagnosis, leaving her shocked by how quickly the situation deteriorated.
Abeel also opened up about the emotional burden of becoming a single parent while coping with her own grief. She recalled that her children struggled to understand what had happened and initially blamed her for taking their father to the hospital.
One of the most heartbreaking moments she described involved her younger daughter, Hoorain, who did not fully understand the permanence of death. Abeel recalled that when the family was given a final opportunity to see Shehzad, her daughter cried and asked when her father would return.
The host said watching her children call out to their father without receiving a response was particularly painful. She also described the difficulty of explaining death to young children while trying to deal with the loss herself.
Abeel, who previously co-hosted the cooking programme Handi with the late television personality Zubaida Tariq on Masala TV, stepped away from hosting after reportedly getting married in 2014. She is a mother of two daughters.
Meanwhile, the programme’s handling of Abeel’s emotional account sparked criticism on social media. Some viewers questioned host Nida Yasir’s decision to invite a grieving widow to discuss such a painful experience, arguing that revisiting the trauma on television could be distressing.
Others expressed sympathy for Abeel and her daughters, saying the conversation highlighted the lasting emotional impact of losing a loved one and the challenges of raising children after such a devastating loss.
