Reflecting on their relationship before he entered the film industry, Abhishek said Shah Rukh not only encouraged him but also took personal responsibility for him on several occasions including in connection with his upcoming film King.
Speaking to a British media outlet, the 50-year-old actor recalled that he and Shah Rukh had also played cricket together. Before entering Bollywood, Abhishek said he would often visit Uday Chopra’s house on Sundays, where he played cricket with Uday Chopra, Sikandar Kher and Hrithik Roshan. Shah Rukh would sometimes join them as well.
Abhishek said Shah Rukh had been extremely supportive of both his craft and his career. He recalled that he and his friends wanted to become actors so they would often speak to Shah Rukh about acting and the film industry.
On one occasion Abhishek asked Shah Rukh which of his own films he liked the most.
According to Abhishek, Shah Rukh replied that his favourite film was the one he was currently working on. When Abhishek asked which film that was Shah Rukh explained that if the film being made at that moment was not his favourite then there was little reason for him to be making it.
Abhishek said he found this perspective very meaningful and that Shah Rukh’s approach influenced the way he thought about his own work.
He said the film he is working on now should be his favourite while everything completed in the past should remain in the past.
Shah Rukh Khan and Abhishek Bachchan have previously appeared together in films including Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna and Happy New Year. They will next share the screen in director Siddharth Anand’s upcoming film King scheduled for release on December 24, 2026.
