Aleema Khan provided basic facilities in jail, LHC told

The Punjab government has informed the Lahore High Court (LHC) that PTI founder Imran Khan’s sister Aleema Khan has been provided with basic facilities and essential daily-use items during her detention.

The report was submitted during the hearing of a petition filed by Aleema’s son, Shahraiz Khan. Assistant Advocate General Punjab Farrukh Khan Lodhi presented the report on behalf of the Kot Lakhpat jail authorities.

According to the report, Aleema was given a bedsheet, blanket, shoes, six suits, a towel and a shawl. Jail authorities also provided her with face wash, a toothbrush and a skincare kit.

The court was hearing a petition concerning the provision of basic facilities and access to Aleema while she remains in detention. The government’s report stated that the required daily-use items had been made available to her.

Aleema was detained on September 20 under the Maintenance of Public Order (MPO) Ordinance. Her detention was ordered by the Lahore deputy commissioner for a period of 30 days.

The detention took place ahead of PTI’s planned protest and march towards Islamabad. The party has said its protest is aimed at seeking Imran Khan’s release and demanding the supremacy of the Constitution.

During an earlier hearing, Aleema’s lawyer had told the court that she was facing difficulties in receiving medicines and other essential items in jail. The lawyer had also raised concerns about access to family members and legal representatives.

After reviewing the government’s report, Justice Abher Gul Khan disposed of the petition concerning the provision of basic facilities.

The judge also directed the Punjab home secretary to decide, according to law, on the request seeking permission for the petitioner to meet Aleema.
