Ali Jafari abduction case: FIR names 8 suspects, family denies money dispute

KARACHI: An alleged abduction and torture case involving young Karachi resident Ali Jafari has taken a serious turn after police registered an FIR naming eight suspects, with the victim alleging that he was forcibly taken at gunpoint and assaulted near Seaview.

According to FIR No. 265/2025 registered at Darakhshan Police Station, District South, the nominated suspects include Ibrahim, Ibrahim Malik and Ali Faisal. Police have invoked several provisions of the Pakistan Penal Code concerning abduction, wrongful confinement, criminal intimidation, assault and common intention.

Sources familiar with the investigation told Minute Mirror that one suspect, identified as Ibrahim, has been arrested, while police are attempting to trace the remaining accused.

The FIR states that Jafari had gone to a gaming zone in DHA Phase 8 with his friend before heading out for dinner. According to his account, a man identified as Ibrahim, accompanied by several others, allegedly intercepted them, threatened them with firearms and forced them into a vehicle.

Jafari alleged that he was subsequently taken towards Seaview, where he was assaulted with sticks and baseball bats. He further claimed that the suspects threatened him and his family with serious consequences if he disclosed what had happened.

The complainant also alleged that a video was recorded during the incident and that a firearm was held against his head while he was instructed to repeat statements dictated by the suspects.

According to the FIR, the alleged abductors also demanded money and instructed Jafari to contact his family to arrange payment. He said his injuries prevented him from immediately approaching the police, while his family was allegedly subjected to threats.

Speaking to reporters outside Darakhshan Police Station, Jafari said he wanted justice and maintained that he did not understand why he had been targeted.

“My family was threatened and I was tortured. I did not know why I was being beaten,” he said, according to a statement shared with Minute Mirror.

Jafari’s teacher, Abdullah Jamal, rejected claims that the incident stemmed from a monetary dispute. He said reports portraying the matter as a financial disagreement were misleading and alleged that police officials had attempted to encourage a settlement between the families.

Jamal also questioned how an injured young man could have been expected to immediately approach the police after allegedly facing threats and violence. He said the family wanted the allegations to be investigated rather than resolved through compromise.

A family representative similarly rejected the money-dispute narrative, saying the alleged demand for money came after Jafari had already been taken away. He questioned how anyone could justify allegedly forcing a young man into a vehicle, taking him to an isolated location and subjecting him to violence.

Advocate Talha Baloch, representing the family, said the FIR had been lodged to ensure accountability and prevent similar incidents in the future. He said that even if a financial disagreement had existed, it could not justify the alleged treatment of the victim.

The lawyer also challenged those promoting the monetary-dispute narrative to appear before investigators and record their statements formally under Section 161 of the Code of Criminal Procedure.

Police sources said evidence submitted in the case includes the victim’s statement, videos and other relevant material. The family is demanding a transparent investigation and the arrest of all remaining nominated suspects.

The allegations have also generated discussion on social media, with users calling for accountability and a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the alleged abduction and assault.

The investigation remains ongoing, and the allegations against the nominated suspects have yet to be established in court.
