Defence and Martyrs Day observed at Pakistan Embassy in Washington

WASHINGTON: The Embassy of Pakistan in Washington, D.C., held a ceremony to commemorate Defence and Martyrs Day, paying tribute to the country’s armed forces and those who sacrificed their lives for Pakistan.

The event was attended by civilian and military attachés from several countries, along with senior officials from the United States.

Addressing the ceremony, Pakistan’s Ambassador to the United States Rizwan Saeed Sheikh recalled the events of 1965 and praised the Pakistani nation for standing united during a difficult period.

He said the nation had demonstrated remarkable courage, unity and solidarity in the face of what he described as the enemy’s hostile designs.

The ambassador said the sacrifices made by Pakistan’s armed forces and civilians during the 1965 war remained an important part of the country’s history.

He stressed that the spirit of national unity shown during the conflict continued to hold significance for Pakistan.

Pakistan’s Defence Attaché also addressed the gathering and reaffirmed the armed forces’ commitment to protecting the country.

He said Pakistan’s armed forces remained determined to safeguard national security and contribute to the country’s peace and stability.

The ceremony provided an opportunity for Pakistani officials and members of the diplomatic community to remember the sacrifices of the nation’s martyrs and acknowledge the role of the armed forces in defending the country.

Participants paid tribute to the courage and dedication of those who laid down their lives in the service of Pakistan.

The event concluded with a renewed expression of respect for the martyrs and a reaffirmation of Pakistan’s commitment to national security, unity and stability.
