Ali Zafar’s bold message to Katrina’s trolls

Pakistani actor and singer Ali Zafar has spoken out in support of Bollywood star Katrina Kaif after she faced online trolling over her appearance following childbirth.

Katrina, who welcomed her son Vihaan with actor Vicky Kaushal last November, has largely stayed away from the public spotlight since becoming a mother. Her recent appearance with Vicky at the Ambanis’ Ganpati celebration, however, sparked widespread discussion on social media.

Several users commented on her appearance and compared photographs of Katrina from before and after pregnancy. Some remarks criticised changes in her body, prompting renewed debate over the pressure placed on women to meet unrealistic beauty standards.

Ali, who worked with Katrina in Mere Brother Ki Dulhan, addressed the criticism in a video that has since gained attention online.

The actor said public scrutiny of women’s bodies was not a new issue and urged people, particularly men, to reflect on their own attitudes before judging others.

Ali argued that society often creates expectations about how women should look, behave and live. He said women who do not conform to those expectations are frequently subjected to criticism and humiliation.

He acknowledged that everyone makes mistakes but stressed the importance of recognising them and making changes. He also questioned the sense of entitlement that can influence the way some men perceive women’s bodies and personal choices.

The singer further pointed out that beauty standards have changed over different periods. He said expectations surrounding women’s bodies have shifted over time, while unrealistic physical ideals have also been imposed on men.

Ali maintained that constant criticism of people’s appearance is unhealthy and urged people to show greater kindness, compassion and understanding.

He said individuals may be dealing with personal struggles that are not visible to others and therefore should not be judged solely on their appearance.
