A major financial scandal has emerged in Karachi’s Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) Yellow Line project, with authorities investigating alleged irregularities exceeding Rs6 billion. The revelations have raised serious concerns about transparency and accountability in one of the city’s most important public transport initiatives.

According to official sources, significant financial irregularities were detected during a review of the project’s expenditures and procurement procedures. Following the findings, the Chief Secretary of Sindh ordered a formal inquiry to determine the nature and extent of the alleged corruption. The investigation is expected to examine whether public funds were misused or allocated in violation of established rules and regulations.

As part of the inquiry, several current and former officials associated with the project have been summoned to appear before investigators. Those called include former Project Director Zamir Abbasi, Director Procurement Jaman Das, Project Director Kamal Hakim, and Deputy Director Taha Aziz. Investigators are expected to review their roles in financial approvals, procurement decisions, and project management processes.

Senior Sindh Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon stated that all relevant officials have been instructed to provide complete records related to the Yellow Line project. He noted that investigators require access to documentation and financial records to establish whether any rules were violated during the execution of the scheme.

Officials have also alleged that advance payments may have been made contrary to prescribed regulations. According to reports, the Sindh Transport Secretary formally wrote to the Chief Secretary, requesting action over the matter and seeking a thorough investigation into the alleged violations.

The BRT Yellow Line is a major transport project designed to improve urban mobility in Karachi. The latest allegations have intensified public scrutiny of the project, and the outcome of the inquiry could have significant implications for accountability and governance in large-scale infrastructure developments across the province.
